    Who is a Subtenant?

    A Subtenant is a person entitled to use a property, or part of it, through a lease contract with the original Tenant. For a subtenancy to be legal, the landlord must provide written consent to the tenant. If the tenant sublets without permission, the landlord may seek the eviction of both the tenant and the subtenant. In such cases, the subtenant may have the right to claim compensation from the tenant. If the primary lease is terminated, subtenants may sometimes continue occupying the property if approved by the landlord.
