What happens to JOP rights when an owner dies?

    Ali Faizan Syed1 min read0 viewsUpdated 1/2/2026
A Lease Contract or ownership interest in a jointly owned property does not expire upon the death of the landlord or the tenant. Instead, the contractual relationship and the associated rights and obligations continue with their heirs. For tenants, the heirs have the option to terminate the relationship, but they must notify the landlord at least thirty days in advance. For owners, the decree of distribution must be registered in the Real Property Register before any heir can legally dispose of their inherited property rights.
