What happens if a Landlord rents out a property after a personal-use eviction?

    Ali Faizan Syed1 min read0 viewsUpdated 1/2/2026
If a Landlord evicts a Tenant for personal use but then rents the property to a third party prematurely, they face legal consequences. The Landlord is prohibited from re-renting the property for two (2) years for residential units or three (3) years for non-residential units from the date of retaking possession. If this rule is violated, the original Tenant has the right to request fair compensation from the tribunal. This prevents Landlords from using "personal use" as a deceptive tactic to replace existing Tenants with higher-paying ones.
