In what condition must a Tenant return the property?

Upon the expiry of the lease, the Tenant must surrender possession of the property to the Landlord. The law requires that the property be returned in the same condition as it was at the start of the contract. However, the Tenant is not responsible for ordinary wear and tear or damage caused by factors beyond their control. If the Landlord and Tenant disagree on the condition of the property at handover, the dispute must be referred to the Rental Disputes Settlement Centre (RDSC) for a final decision.
